Pookai Sends First Shipment of 2005

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Pookai Book Project sent 18 books and $390 to the Angsoeng Library in its first shipment of 2005.

$340 of the money was part of the Pookai Book Project’s $2,000 pledge this year. The remaining $50 is meant to keep a power generator running as part of the Keep Angsoeng Lit campaign to power the library’s generator.

The books were Amelia Earhart by Francene Sabine; Marie Curie by Keith Brandt; Leo the Lop by Stephen Cosgrove; The Ball that Wouldn’t Bounce by Mel Cebulash; The Mystery of the Magic Green Ball by Steven Kellogg; Tee - Tee by Stephen Cosgrove; Stanley by Syd Hoff; Little Bear by Else H. Minarik; Roget’s II, The New Thesaurus by American Heritage Dictionary; Helping Our Animal Friends by Judith E. Rinard; Basic Composition 1 by Hans P. Guth; Flies Are Fascinating by Valerie Wilkenson; Wolf Child by Dennis Nolan; The Saggy Baggy Elephant by K & B Jackson; The Friendly Book by Margaret Wise Brown; Fantastic Creatures from Greek Myths by Pat Posner; Big Thoughts for Little People by Kenneth N. Taylor; and The Bug and the Slug in the Rug by Steve Allen.

The Pookai Project’s mission is to help the restoration of Cambodia by gathering funds and need-specific books for the Angsoeng Library. These donations will promote literacy, accelerate education, speed economic development and empower Cambodians to take their place on the world stage. Its first client is the Angsoeng Library, run by leading journalist Chandara Lor.
