Pookai Project Launches Cambodian Weblog
Feb. 29, 2004 ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Pookai Book Project has started a Weblog educate and inform our donors and the general public about Cambodia. The Weblog, or blog, is called Santepheap, which means "peace" in Khmer, Cambodia’s national language. Its creation is part of an evolving secondary mission for the Project. Primarily, the Project’s mission is to help the restoration of Cambodia by gathering funds and need-specific books for the nation’s libraries. These donations will promote literacy, accelerate education, speed economic development and empower Cambodians to take their place on the world stage. But increasingly, the members of the Pookai Book Project think they have a role in helping educate and inform the general public about Cambodia. Surprisingly, the group could not find any Weblogs dedicated to what’s going on in Cambodia, although there are a plethora of message boards, news items and varying Web sites discussing the country. So every weekday, board members of the Pookai Book Project will list important news about Cambodia, interesting facts about the country, diverse perspectives, as well as reports about its client, Angsoeng Library, and the Pookai Project itself. The group hopes to build a comprehensive list of useful and informative links on the left-hand side of this page. This blog doesn’t have a comments section, but readers are encouraged to send e-mails to the project for publication on the blog.
