Pookai to Send $2,000 Focus Exclusively on Angsoeng Library

Feb. 20, 2005

ROCKFORD, Ill. – After its best year to date, The Pookai Book Project will donate at least $2,000 to the Angsoeng Library and will look for new educational materials – such as DVDs, pens, pencils, award certificates and art and school supplies – along with regular shipments of books.

Last year, the Project donated $1,840: $1,500 for general use and another $340 from the new Keep Angsoeng Lit Campaign, which helps buy fuel for the library’s generator. The Project will keep promoting the Keep Angsoeng Lit Campaign and has committed to give at least $2,000 to the Angsoeng Library for general use.

The Project has started looking for new educational materials to assist the Angsoeng Library’s new programs. In 2004 the Library began teaching English and art classes to children. By the end of the year, it opened includes a DVD player.

Supplying educational materials and DVDs allows Angsoeng to spend its money on teachers and other programs and provide children with quality materials to enhance the educational experience.

Also, The Pookai Book Project has decided to focus all of its efforts on the Angsoeng Library. So the group’s new mission is “to help the restoration of Cambodia by gathering funds and need-specific books for the Angsoeng Library. These donations will promote literacy, accelerate education, speed economic development and empower Cambodians to take their place on the world stage.
