ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Pookai Book Project sent 13 books and $340 to the Angsoeng Library in its second shipment of 2005.
The money is part of the Pookai Book Project’s $2,000 pledge this year and keeps the organization on track on its 2005 promise. It's the second of six shipments this year.
The books are Stalking the Elephant Kings, by Christopher Kremmer; In Search of Southeast Asia, by Chandler, Roff, Smail, Steinberg and Taylor; Woodside and Wyatt; Our House Divided, by Tomi Knaefler; The Genesis of East Asia, by Charles Holcombe; New Guinea, by Clive Moore; The Dreams of Two Yi-min, by Margaret K. Pai; Under the Starfruit Tree, by Aaalice M. Terada; Blades of Grass, by Lao She; A Distant and Beautiful Place, by Yang Kwija; Siam Mapped, by Thongchai Winichakul; Atlas of Laos, by Bounthavy Sisouphanthong and Christian Taillard; and two copies of The Cat that Lived a Million Times, by Sano Yoko.
The Pookai Project’s mission is to help the restoration of Cambodia by gathering funds and need-specific books for the Angsoeng Library. These donations will promote literacy, accelerate education, speed economic development and empower Cambodians to take their place on the world stage. Its first client is the Angsoeng Library, run by leading journalist Chandara Lor. |
